New sanitary agreement allows exports of UK pork products to Mexico
in MexicoTrade barrier summary
The UK government has secured a new sanitary agreement for pork products, including for Northern Irish exporters, through dedicated negotiations with Mexico’s government. As a result, 12 businesses across England and Northern Ireland have secured approval to export British pork products to Mexico.
Businesses will also now be able to export offal and edible by-products, which will give British pig farmers a return on parts that are less popular in the UK. With consumption in Mexico’s pork market having grown by 5.4% annually between 2019 and 2024, industry estimates expect the deal to bring in £19 million to the UK economy over 5 years.
