Inconsistent registration standards affect UK medical device exports into Thailand

in Thailand

Trade barrier summary

Medical devices in Thailand must be registered under the Medical Device Control Division of the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with labels in the Thai language.

There’s no clear standard for the registration of medical devices. This causes inconsistencies in the system, such as additional documents sometimes being requested by the Foods and Drug Administration (FDA).

Additionally, despite the harmonisation system (HS) for raw materials, the classification code used by customs often changes at the Thai border. In these circumstances, customs may charge the higher of the two customs duty rates.
