The Brazilian legal services market is very restrictive for UK lawyers and law firms to access. In particular there are issues around UK qualified lawyers and UK law firms entering into partnership with Brazilian law firms; employing and being employed by Brazilian law firms and providing advice on the law of any jurisdiction in which the lawyer is qualified. Foreign lawyers are restricted to operating as foreign legal consultants specialising in only the law of their country of origin. Brazil also does not list legal services under its WTO GATS schedules.
