This affects UK exports of cosmetics to Thailand. Exporters first need to obtain a foreign business licence from the Department of Business Development. They then need to register with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a market licence.

Applications need to include characteristics of factories, equipment, tools, packaging and place of import; procedures covering advertising and labelling, maintaining and storing cosmetics data for FDA investigation, and for reporting user dissatisfaction.

Once a licence is granted, a government fee of a maximum of 5,000 Thai Bhat is needed, which is valid for 3 years. After that, there’s an additional fee of up to 5,000 Thai Bhat.

Licence holders also need to be aware of FDA compliance requirements: good manufacturing practice, program information files, product labelling regulations, advertising and hazardous cosmetic substances.
