Different classifications of blood products affecting access to Export Heath Certificates for UK black pudding producers

in Canada

Trade barrier summary

This affects UK black pudding producers exporting to Canada. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) classifies black pudding or blood sausage as a meat product. The UK Animal Plant Health Agency does not. This means that black pudding exporters cannot access export health certificates (EHCs) for export to Canada.

UK black pudding producers cannot use EHC 7068 as this certificate is for meat products only.

EHC 6671 covering blood products is not designed for blood products for human consumption and therefore cannot be used to export black pudding.

This classification issue prevents the export of black pudding from the UK to Canada.
