UK pork producers suspended from exporting to China over COVID-19 outbreaks
in ChinaTrade barrier summary
The General Administration of Customs China (GACC) suspended imports from UK pork producers following outbreaks of COVID-19 at 5 producers in 2020 and 2021. The UK government has secured the end of these restrictions on unprocessed pork exports to China.
One pork producer resumed exports quickly after the GACC audit and 2 producers have permanently closed. The UK government continues to lobby for the import restrictions of the other 2 producers to be lifted, which would be worth £80 million to the UK over the next 5 years.
