in Thailand

Trade barrier summary

It is not clear to UK exporters how products are selected for inclusion on Thailand’s National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM).

The NLEM is a list of medications used in Thailand’s hospitals and public health centres. Medications on the list can be made available to large sections of the population who belong to the ‘gold card’ universal health scheme, the Social Security Fund and the civil service's healthcare program.
The list comprises:
• medications for hospitals and health centres
• herbal medications (aka alternative medicines e.g. traditional/conventional medicines, local Thai medicines practised by individual cultures)
