Requirements for product safety and quality marking in Saudi Arabia

in Saudi Arabia

Trade barrier summary

SASO - the Saudi regulator for both imported and locally manufactured goods is introducing new product registration and quality marking requirements as part of the SALEEM safety framework. SALEEM rules are more stringent than those of the UK and the EU, potentially resulting in additional costs to UK exporters due to periodic testing and auditing requirements. In addition, products classified as 'high risk' require a SASO Quality Mark that requires additional steps in the application process. The new rules are effective for select chemical, construction, electrical, and mechanical products with plans for the rules to cover further products in the near future.
