UK dairy exports to Egypt excluded from halal certification requirements
in EgyptTrade barrier summary
UK dairy exporters faced large increases in prices as a result of Egypt’s halal certification requirements. UK government officials engaged with Egyptian authorities, including the General Organization for Veterinary Services, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and Egyptian World Trade Organization officials. This engagement resulted in Egypt excluding dairy products from the scope of its halal certification requirements.
This will protect around £26 million of existing UK dairy exports to Egypt in goods such as milk and cream, cheese, and butter. The potential additional opportunities for UK exporters are estimated to be worth around £100 million to £400 million over 5 years.
