Trade barrier summary

The Philippines temporarily increased restrictions for the import of British meat and live cattle due to a September 2021 outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in the UK.

The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) worked with the Philippines' Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) to ensure that the temporary restrictions on exports of British cattle and meat were lifted in March 2022.
