Many areas of work denied to UK citizens in Thailand

in Thailand

Trade barrier summary

There are many sectors in which it it is very difficult to be employed as a foreigner in Thailand. This is because of the Emergency Decree on Foreigners Working Management B.E. 2560 issued in June 2017 - Decree no. 1. An amendment was issued in March 2018 - Decree no. 2.

Decree No.1 prohibits people who are not Thai citizens from engaging in specific occupations. Decree No.2 provides some exceptions. It also redefines ‘work’ as “an engagement of any profession, with or without employer, but excluding business operation of a licensee under the law governing foreigners’ business operation”.
