More types of UK tea brands can now be sold in Brazil

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) has a 'positive' list of plant species that allows for commercialisation of tea in the market. Previously, this list did not include a number of plant species that are present in UK tea brands, which meant that these particular teas could not be exported to Brazil. ANVISA has updated its positive list to include 'Aspalathus LInearis' for tea preparations. This change enables UK tea exporters to include both green and red rooibos' leaves and stems to be commercialised in Brazil.
ANVISA currently regulates tea ingredients on a 'positive list' basis, meaning that each ingredient included in tea preparations needs approval to be added onto their ‘positive list.’ This differs from the ‘negative list’, which instead regulates exclusively/bans substances that are not allowed.
