UK businesses operating in Saudi Arabia experienced restrictions when transferring data across borders as a result of the country's PDPL (Personal Data Protection law).

Saudi government consultations led to changes to the published PDPL in March 2023.

The law is now similar to UK GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and will not include data localisation requirements, focusing only on information collection, processing and sharing.
