Clear taxonomy needed for the issuance of green bonds, as well as the lack of requirements for institutional investors to invest in ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) compliant bonds or assets

in Colombia

Trade barrier summary

UK Asset Managers can focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and green (environmental) content in their investments. Colombia's regulatory framework did not provide for these aspects. Regulators and government, as part of their due diligence process, would benefit from considering the risks, how to assess these, and the taxonomy of these types of assets. The Colombian Government recently started to work on a taxonomy for green investments in the country: one of its main local banks was the first to issue green bonds. This has made the Colombian market more attractive to funds and assets offered by UK Asset Managers.
