New halal certification requirements in Indonesia for food and drink
in IndonesiaTrade barrier summary
In 2019, halal certification became mandatory for all finished products and individual ingredients in Indonesia. On 17 October 2024, the Indonesian government announced a delay to the implementation of this requirement for imported food and drink products (among others) until October 2026.
The UK government has also supported some UK halal certification bodies to agree mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) with Indonesia's Halal Certification Agency. This means that UK bodies with an MRA can now certify that certain products meet Indonesia's halal standards.
