Identity and quality standards for Scotch whisky in Brazil
in BrazilTrade barrier summary
Following UK government intervention, Scotch whisky is now a recognised geographical indication (GI) in Brazil. GI protection guarantees a product’s characteristics or reputation, authenticity and origin. It protects the product name from misuse or imitation.
As a result, a certificate of typicity is no longer required for Scotch whisky. The product can now enter the Brazilian market even if it does not meet some local specific parameters in identity and quality standards.
