Trade barrier summary

In addition to obtaining an alcohol import licence and paying import duties and taxes, importers of distilled beer and wine are required by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), to acquire approval for product labels which:

- prohibit the use of quality or property claim statements such as ‘premium’ or ‘deluxe’, and the display of cartoon images disregarding any trademark or geographical indicators associated with those labels
- potentially include pictorial health-warnings comparable to tobacco products, covering a substantial area of the label and packaging materials.
