UK permitted to export trout to China
in ChinaTrade barrier summary
China required a completed risk assessment on UK trout before trade was able to begin. Defra and DBT worked with the General Administration of Customs China (GACC) to agree on a protocol for farmed aquatic products, which came into effect on 29 January 2026. This provides the necessary health and certification framework for GACC to approve imports of trout. This will enable UK exporters to export trout shortly using an updated export health certificate.
