Requirements for foreign asset management companies to do business in Colombia

in Colombia

Trade barrier summary

Currently, foreign asset managers have to open a representative office or hire a distribution intermediary in Colombia, in order to distribute and market their funds to institutional and retail clients. In addition, each time the foreign asset management company wants to distribute a new fund, they need the local regulator Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia's (SFC) approval. These processes are lengthy and costly, making it challenging for new foreign asset managers to do business in Colombia, especially when there is interest in locating more offshore funds managed by UK companies in the market.
