Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) affecting UK exports of food products to Canada

in Canada

Trade barrier summary

This affects exporters of food products from the UK to Canada. Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) came into force on 15 January 2019. These require all food products imported into Canada to go through a licensed Canadian importer.

This adds exports costs for UK firms, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and e-commerce sellers, as they are required to hire third party facilitators.
