Mutual recognition of organic equivalence

in Taiwan

Trade barrier summary

Before May 2020, Taiwan unilaterally recognised UK organic standards, allowing UK organic products to be sold to Taiwan. However, Taiwan’s Organic Agriculture Promotion Act, effective since May 2020, states that Taiwan will only recognise organic products from markets that reciprocally recognise Taiwan’s organic standards.

This means from May 2020 UK organic products are no longer recognised, which means they can no longer be labelled as organic. This represents a significant challenge for UK exporters.
